Professor Col (Rtd) Dr. Shormin Ara Ferdousi, MBBS, DCH, FCPS (Ped), Fellow Ped Oncology (Tata Medical Center, India), OJT in Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT)in India with People’s Tree Hospital Bangalore, subsidiary of Cure to Children (C2C), headed by interationally famous reputed Dr. LaurenceFaulkner, world famous Child Cancer Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Specialist, Verona, Italy. 

 I retired from the Bangladesh Army after 28 years of service as the HOD of the pediatric hematology-oncology department and a pediatric bone marrow transplanter. 

I believe that the fundamental knowledge I've gained in medical science -- FCPS (Paediatrics), Fellowship in Paediatric Oncology, and OJT in Ped. BMT and successful applications of that knowledge are allowing me to help a large number of pediatric patients suffering from childhood cancers. 

I've treated over 500 cancer-affected children in the last ten years, and by Allah's Grace, the vast majority of them are in remission. Their EFS is as equal as the international survival rate.

I have established a dependent pediatric oncology ward and HDU in the CMH Dhaka and in the Ahsania Mission Cancer and General Hospital, Dhaka.

I used to perform IT chemotherapy, BM aspiration, and trephine biopsy regularly for my patients.

In 2016 I played an important role to make MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Bangladesh Army and Tata Mrdical Center (TMC) India. TMC India provided training for nursing staff, surgeons for chemo port insertion, basic training of BMT and lab orientation for Flow cytometry and Cytogenetics. The then director of TMC India, Professor Dr. Mamen Chandy, called the "Father of BMT" of India, visited CMH Dhaka and Ahsania Mission Cancer and General Hospital, Dhaka, and made a MUO for the above-mentioned matters. As an organizer and one of the key person to make the whole program successful, I proved my leadership and management qualities.

I am a paediatric bone marrow transplanter who began autologous BMT for the first time in Bangladesh in 2016 at CMH Dhaka, and I have performed several BMTs on children with Neuroblastoma (NB).

In 2021, I have successfully performed BMT on a thalassemia-affected child. This is also Bangladesh's first pediatric allogeneic BMT (full-match HLA sibling donor) procedure. Both groups of patients are enjoying their daily lives happily. Please note, I conducted the procedures successfully (Bone Marrow Transplantation and treatment of child cancerss at the minimal cost almost even at one sixth compared to even same treatment in India.

Since 2009, I performed as a teacher in AFMC. I had involved with routine lectures and been an examiner of MBBS, DCH students. I am used to participating as an invigilator , coordinator of various courses and examination in BCPS.I was also involved with BCPS for the last two years as an observer examiner for pediatric part II and the MCPS examination.

I have 10 publications regarding childhood cancers and according to research gate, research interest score 7.1, citations 11.

Recently I have invited as first day speaker of 2nd International Conference on Paediatrics and Neonatology scheduled on November 28 – 30 at Paris, France with my article “High Dose Methotrexate and Leucovorin Rescue Therapy in Childhood Malignancies: Experience in Resource-Limited Country “

I am working as professor and HOD of paediatric HematoOncology Department, GonoshasthyaNagor Hospital &SamajVittic Medical College Dhaka. 

I believe my past experience and deep interest in the management of childhood cancers and paediatrics bone marrow transplantation would make me the best paediatric hemato oncologist    and paediatric bone marrow transplanter at any Institution where scope is available to serve the nation.

Attention:

She is working there as Government nominated full professor and Head of the Child Cancer Department. Like other private hospital, here is also uncertainty although she is the only one in Bangladesh who performed successfully 1. Autologous 2. Allugenic and 3. Thalassemic Bone marrow transplantation at free or one third or one fourth cost of even India. Every child cancer patients don’t require Bone marrow transplantation except the worst diagnosis, so she treats child cancer patients (up to 18 years) with other means except Bone marrow transplantation, Alhamdulillah till date approximately 400 cancer children fully cured in her hand, now resuming their school colleges but comes to her for follow-up. Still she is treating poor children with cancer with donation in need.

However still she is treating cancer children, but that could be much higher in number in free or very low cost if there might be publicity. Specially thalassemia patients are in large number in this country in comparison to other child cancers, but lack of information is there and she gets less patients. Other cancer specialists with less successes have aggressive marketing which your bhabi dont.

In every private hospital, there is uncertainty about job as she also possesses here, but till date no problem found. Pls pray for herto Allah Almighty so that she can disseminate and utilise her expertise for the cancer childs at need.
